用 integration by parts 處理 $\int \tan xdx$ 如下

$\int \tan xdx=\int \frac{\sin xdx}{\cos x}=-\int \frac{d\cos x}{\cos x}=-\frac{\cos x}{\cos x}+\int \cos xd(\sec x)=-1+\int \tan xdx$

於是

0=-1

如常地，這不過是不定積分的任意常數的問題。

考慮定積分，可能同學也會犯以下問題：

$\int_a^b \tan xdx=-1+\int_a^b \tan xdx$

錯！不可忘記 (uv)_a^b ，即

$\int_a^b \tan xdx=(-1)_a^b+\int_a^b \tan xdx=-1-(-1)+\int_a^b \tan xdx=\int_a^b \tan xdx$
